Elegant combinations of metal and wood
Apart from the odd piece of furniture, the basis of my hobbies over the years has been mainly with the use of metal and welding. This came in handy later on when I needed to make tools for different projects. However, after retiring, I completed a wood carving course with Michael Mason in South Australia and a basic wood turning course with Les Fortescue. These skills enabled me to pursue my interest in making hand-carved rocking horses.
I also joined the Woodcraft Guild ACT and by being amongst skilful members of the Guild, I was able to improve my own woodcraft techniques. This has led to success in several competitions including prizes in the annual Guild Exhibition. I have been recognized in the Royal Canberra Show by being judged the Grand Champion in 2011 and Reserve Champion in 2014.
